ADVENTURE!

ADVENTURE! I wonder if there is a nerd alive who can hear the word adventure, and not think of the iconic scene where Bilbo runs out of the Shire to catch up with Gandalf and the dwarves shouting “I’m going on an adventure!” at the top of his lungs.

No matter how you feel about the Hobbit adaptation, that scene is immensely powerful and so well done. If you google “adventure,” you get a gazillion hits – all various memes featuring this scene. And if you ask me, it’s a brilliant illustration of the “into the rabbit hole” step of storytelling.

When I was young, I dreamed of adventures that would take me away and/or abroad. I wanted to see new places, experience different ways of living and thinking. Life has been kind to me in that respect. Through my work, I’ve been able to meet people from every corner of the world. And, interestingly, the experience has taught me that adventures can just as well be had in the safety of your own home.

I guess what an adventure requires, really, is nothing more than your reckless abandon. Your willingness to put yourself in a, potentially, uncomfortable position, in order to experience something new. Which, if you think about it, is exactly what I’m doing here in my pandemic panic room.

In the middle of a pandemic that has, indeed, thrown all of into the rabbit hole, I’m experiencing something I never thought I’d have the guts to do.

Pretty cool, huh?

How about you? Have you been on any adventures? Have you dreamed of any? Did you write about them? Or are they still hiding in a drawer somewhere?

Let’s talk!

Please share the links to your posts using today’s prompt in the comments below so I can pop in and read them.

Cheers for now,
