YOUR MCs DEEPEST DESIRE

INSTAWRIMO Day 17 and we’re talking about our deepest desires in true Lucifer fashion. But it’s not actually our own desires we’re going to look at, but that/those of our MCs. Yep, today’s prompt is:

– Your MCs deepest desire.

I’ve chosen to show you Horse’s deepest desire, because it’s already been published. It may not have been explicitly stated as his deepest desire, but it is the one thing he keeps coming back to. What all his efforts since he decided on his career path has been leading up to. 

“But Edda was otherworldly. […] I wanted it all with her. The ride or die. The happily ever after,” he says in Horse’s Heart.

If you haven’t heard,  Horse is one of the MCs in the Ulfrheim saga and he is Edda’s complete opposite. He’s the order in her chaos and the calm in her storm. He’s a natural primal dominant and she finds peace and solace submitting to him. On her own terms.

A certified veterinarian, skilled horse whisperer and successful breeder of rare coldbloods, he has an eye for the extraordinary and Edda definitely falls into that category. He’s also had a lifetime of training in the noble art of taming and breaking in even the most difficult animals. Where others may see a hopeless case, Horse sees a challenge.

This is a man who is used to getting what he wants, in all areas of life, and he claims Edda the moment he sets eyes on her. His deepest desire is to own and collar her. He wants the world to know she belongs to him. He wants to protect her and do right by her. Keep her safe and make up for all the horrors she’s had to live through. And he will go through hell or high water to make that happen.

As is normally the case in storytelling, however, our characters deepest desires are rarely what they actually need. At least not in the way they think they do. They always have to go through the hoops until they have learned their lesson and figured out how to solve their problem. 

In Horse’s case, he may have to start by getting his head around the difference between rescuing and owning animals, and having a significant other.
