WRITING BUDDIES

WRITING BUDDIES is today’s prompt in the #InstaWrimo challenge, so let’s talk about this rare, but richly rewarding, partnership.

A writing buddy is like a unicorn. We believe they exist, but most of us haven’t actually seen one up close. Yet we’re hoping one will cross our path one day. And when that day comes, the writers who cherish and nurture their unicorn tend to have a life-long relationship with that person.

I guess it’s only natural that we’re drawn to other writers. Writing is often a lonely and deeply painful activity. And it’s an activity that can last for a few hours up to months on end. Sometimes the story resists us and we can only work on it for brief moments in time. And at other times the story draws us in, occupying our minds day and night, demanding to be written.

Most of us don’t live with other writers, and the people we do have around us may not be very understanding. Not because they don’t care about us, but because it’s hard to comprehend how this writing life works and what it does to us. Other writers understand. To them, what’s alien to our friends and family is just yet another aspect of #writerslife.

With a good writing buddy in your life, you don’t just have someone to share your experiences with, but a proper sparring partner. A writing buddy can help you become a better writer, keep you accountable and give you the sense of having a colleague.

For any partnership to work, though, the partners need to be well matched one way or the other. They also need to be on the same page with regards to what they expect from the relationship and what they are prepared to give to get there.

Do you have a writing buddy?

Or would you like to have one?

Let’s talk!

Please share the links to your posts using today’s prompt in the comments below so I can pop in and read them.
