Back to the Beginning: Vampires

In the first post on this site, I wrote about becoming an author and how it was both daunting and exciting. In setting up a virtual writers’ room here, I wanted to keep a record of my progress and see if I could figure out what it is that makes a bestseller a bestseller. I wanted to understand popular storytelling. Here’s what I wrote:

“I have no map. No guidebooks to help me set a course. All I have is the word I’ve chosen as the starting point for this adventure.

Vampire.

Let’s see where it may lead me…”

The answer, it seems, is that it would lead me back here. To vampires. I find it rather amusing to think of how much has changed because of these fanged monsters. And I have yet to write a story about them…

The purpose of this space is to collect all the vampire-related content in a space where it is easy to find. Especially during spook season. We are always happy to get feedback from you, so if there is something we have missed or something you’d like to add, please let us know.

I realised that vampire stories (and their fans) seem to be spread over a scale with two distinct extremes. On one side, fans of Anne RiceBram Stoker, and Sheridan Le Fanu hold court. On the other side, we find fans of Stephenie Meyer who seems to be to literature what Marmite is to fine dining.
