TEASER TRAILER BREAKDOWN
WoT ON PRIME A teaser trailer breakdown is on the menu today. I’ve literally watched through this video so many times I think I could recite the scenes now.
But before we jump back into the trailer, can we just take a second or two to squeal a little over this:
We have a release date! Friday 19 November is the day some of us have been looking forward to for a very long time now. Or since April 2017, to be exact, as that’s when Sony announced they had secured the rights and would be turning this high fantasy into a tv-series.
Amazon wanted in, and after some negotiations they announced that it would be a joint venture. But enough of the technicalities for now. Let’s go back to the trailer and do a scene by scene breakdown.
Please be warned, there may/will be spoilers here depending on how much you’ve seen/read so far.
The thumbnail shows us a picture of Moiraine Damodred, Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah. This is taken from the Winternight chaos in Emond’s Field, or the Two Rivers. I can’t remember what they decided to call it in the series. In the books, the name of the village is Emond’s field, which is located in the Two Rivers.
[Scene 1] Egwene al’Vere and Nynaeve al’Meara, two young women from Emond’s Field, a small village in the Two Rivers region in Andor, are standing on a cliff. We see Nynaeve push Egwene off the edge and she falls into the river below.
[Scene 2] A view of, what I’d presume is, the Two Rivers region, with Emond’s Field in the lower right corner.
[Scene 3] The Village Green in Emond’s Field, with the Winespring Inn in the background. This is Egwene’s home. Voiceover from Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred reads the iconic intro, that starts off each book with only minor variations: “The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. […] There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
[Scene 4] Inside the Winespring Inn, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon and Rand al’Thor seem to be having a good time together. Perrin and Rand, at least, have some kind of drinks and Mat looks like he’s got his dice with him.
[Scene 5] Egwene enters the Inn looking rather regal, and Rand looks all lovey-dovey when he sees her. Nynaeve seems to be pleased with what she sees. Maybe she’s proud of Egwene? It’s possible that she was pushed into the river as a part of her initiation into the women’s circle. Or maybe to start training as village wisdom.
[Scene 6] Five (or six?) riders are leaving (Emond’s Field?) following the/a river downstream. But who are they? My guess would be this is the party that leaves the Two Rivers, even though it’s too early for that in this cut.
[Scene 7] A crying warder, Stepin, is kissing an Aes Sedai serpent ring. I guess this is the funeral for Kerene Nagashi, whom he was bonded to.
[Scene 8] Egwene comes out of the water (that she was pushed into?) covered in ink/paint in red, yellow and white. Her dress is blue, the water is green, the stone is grey and her hair is brown, A foreshadowing? Really curious to see this scene play out.
[Scene 9] Tar Valon with the White Tower, home of the Aes Sedai, and the Dragonmount looming in the background.
[Scene 10] Moiraine makes an entrance. I’m guessing this is when she arrives at the Winespring Inn.
[Scene 11] Egwene is floating downstream. This is probably from when she was pushed too, they’ve just chopped the clips up and put them together in a slightly confusing order. Or I’m dead wrong.
[Scene 12] EThe Hall in the White Tower with representatives of all seven Ajahs present. It looks like Moiraine, Liandrin and Alanna (?) standing together (red, blue and green) facing the Amyrlin Seat.
[Scene 13] Siuan Sanche as the Amyrlin Seat. In the Amyrlin Seat. Of all Ajahs and none. Is this when she was voted in?
[Scene 14] Moiraine is being healed by Corinne Nagashi. The first look at how the power works. According to the books, the weaves have different colours and all Aes Sedai can see them, but muggles can not. I’m guessing Moiraine was injured at, or before, Shadar Logoth.
[Scene 15] Red Ajah looking fearsome. Liandrin in the middle.
[Scene 16] Leane Sharif calling the Hall to Order? Maybe announcing the Amyrlin’s arrival?
[Scene 17] Alanna Mosvani, her warders Ihvon and Maksim and Nynaeve al’Meara are facing a threat. Maybe dragonsworn. Lan Mandragoran is standing in front of Alanna, but only his sword is seen here.
[Scene 18] Alanna is using the power to stop the arrows flying towards them. Lan looks like he’s protecting Nynaeve.
[Scene 19] Tar Valon again. The ogier grove is visible by the wall to the left side, and the two bridges connecting the island to the mainland.
[Scene 20] Rand and Mat walking towards Shadar Logoth?
[Scene 21] Rand aiming an arrow at something/someone. Could it be when he first spotted the rider?
[Scene 23] Shadar Logoth. Mat is looking at a dagger. Rand, Perrin and Egwene see Mashadar, the shadow/mist or Shadar Logoth?
[Scene 24] Egwene running up to the top of the wall/battlements of Shadar Logoth. Probably to jump into the river to escape Mashadar.
[Scene 25] Mat is… Somewhere. And by the looks of it, there’s a dead Aiel hanging on the gibbet.
[Scene 26] MPerris is facing a wolf. I hope it’s Hopper.
[Scene 27] Rand and Egwene are having an intimate moment. It looks like the Winespring Inn, so it could be after Winternight. Could also be in Fal Dara, I suppose.
[Scene 28] Mat and Perrin look forlorn. This could be in Shadar Logoth.
[Scene 25] Tam al’Thor, Rand’s father.
[Scene 26] Belthane dance in Two Rivers?
[Scene 27] Dead bodies laid out in circles matching the dance. But this looks like a different place. Maybe after the Logain incident? There are red and green (and brown?) Ajah present. Could it be Fal Dara?
[Scene 28] The White Tower again. Three circle scenes, one after the other. What’s the message? One ring to bind them all? =/
[Scene 29] A myrdraal. On Winternight?.
[Scene 30] Lan tells Nynaeve the Dark One is coming for her friends.
[Scene 31] Trollocs attack. Mat and Rand are running.
[Scene 32] Fight scene in forest. My guess is that this is from the same place where we saw Alanna use the poser to stop the arrows. These guys are probably Logain’s dragonsworn.
[Scene 33] Logain breaks the shield that holds him.
[Scene 34] Nynaeve looks scared. Probably still at the dragonsworn fight scene.
[Scene 35] Moiraine at the White Tower.
[Scene 36] Kerene Nagashi warns that the last battle is coming.
[Scene 36] A fist of trollocs ready to attack. At Emond’s Field?
[Scene 37] Moiraine and Aldieb galloping through the woods.
[Scene 38] Lan sees, or hears, something.
[Scene 39] Kerene Nagashi warns that the last battle is coming.
[Scene 40] Dragonsworn fight scene again, but from the attackers’ view.
[Scene 41] Not sure. Is this Egwene? Or Nynaeve? One of the girls at least, but who is standing behind? And who/what are they about to fight?
[Scene 42] Some kind of cave where they Aes Sedai are holding Logain? Guessing this is what gives him a chance to break the shield?.
[Scene 43] Lan fighting trollocs at Winternight.
[Scene 44] Mat, Rand, Egwene and Moiraine (I think) riding up to a waygate.
[Scene 45] A fade/myrdraal riding into Emond’s Field.
[Scene 46] Trollocs attack, probably egged on by the fade/myrdraal.
[Scene 47] Lan and Moiraine are using their bond, her peers ad his skills to fight the trollocs together.
Wow, they managed to cram 47 short scenes into a two-minute video! I’m impressed. It made me want to get back into Premier Pro and cut more videos again.
So, what did you think of the teaser? I thought it was pretty clever, actually. I hope we get the full-length one at ComicCon. Every little helps build the excitement for the release day. Three episodes in one go on the 19th, then one per week for three weeks. I thought we were getting eight episodes, but I guess I must have misread that. Bugger.
What did I miss? And how are you fee
ling about this?
Let’s talk in the comments/socials.
Much love,
