SHORTLISTED BOOKS SPRING 2020
READERS’ ROOM: SUGGESTED READS
IT’S OFFICIAL! I have started a shortlist of titles I have chosen to delve into during my storytelling exploits. I decided to pick four titles from the results I got when I was searching for vampires. I also decided to only look at stories with films or tv-adaptations to begin with.
These were the first four titles I picked:
001) The Twilight Saga, Stephenie Meyer
002) All Souls Trilogy, Deborah Harkness
003) Shadowhunter Chronicles, Cassandra Clare
004) Fallen Series, Lauren Kate
Right now, I’m primarily interested in stories with paranormal and/or supernatural themes, but generally speaking, any book will pique my interest if it’s either a great story (allegedly), or a story that’s hugely successful. That means even the tacky, tasteless and downright terrible will get a chance. The objective of this whole adventure is, after all, to get a better idea of what works and what doesn’t.
I want to understand:
a) What is a good story?
b) What makes a story bad?
And I’d also like to know if there’s a way we can learn to identify whether our own stories are good or bad? Or, at the very least, passable?
Do you have any suggestions that I should add to my list? Any titles you think might fit my objective? Please, let me know in the comments below or drop me an email at aswewriteblog@gmail.com.
Cheers for now,
