ROLL ON JANUARY
MILESTONES
GOODBYE DECEMBER! I’ve been online for four months now to forge partnerships, find potential readers and engage in some kind of intellectual debate and social interaction with other writers. Covid style, of course.
As December, and with it this whole blasted year, withers away in the night, it’s time to tally up the numbers for my monthly recap.
Instagram is still very slow, but I’ll keep at it for a full year, as planned, before I decide whether it’s worth my while. I gained ten more followers this month, but overall the engagement is very low. The platform sure has changed since I first joined in 2013.
Facebook, or meta or whatever it is now, is even worse. The friend requests keep ticking in, but 99.9% are from men looking to get something. I have to stay on facebook for family reasons, so I guess I’ll give it a full year too, but most days it feels like a bad idea.
Twitter is still the biggest surprise in this part of my journey. It has become my happy place. The platform I know I can turn to whenever I want a laugh or someone to talk to.
Over the past week, I’ve also started to put my YouTube channel together. Starting with shorts, particularly silly TikTok videos, the idea is to start building up the numbers and begin uploading longer videos in the new year. We’ll see how that goes.
Today, as I close the books on December, I’m still just as humbled by the numbers as I’ve been in each of these milestone posts. Achievements so far:
