IF YOUR NOVEL WERE A MEME

INSTAWRIMO DAY 14 is here, and I’m kinda chuffed to have made it through two whole weeks of daily blogging. That doesn’t happen very often.

Today’s prompt for the NaNoWriMo #InstaWrimo challenge is:

If your novel were a meme.

Well, as you can see above, if my Ulfrheim sagas were a meme, I think it would look something like this. Baker has made Lil’ Red Ridin’ Hood something of a signature tune for the Cubbies, and the lyrics are fitting.

Little Red Ridin’ Hood by Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs.

Edda often feels like a toy caught in a tug-of-war between a pack of big, bad wolves. But, as is often the case, the bad boys can be pretty damn good to be around too.

The “meme” also captures something of the Ulfrheim atmosphere. Edda is so tiny compared to the Cubbies, but in a greater perspective so is the average person in the face of impending doom.

The shadows are looming over the world, and the chances of survival are slim. The big, bad wolves want you to believe they can be good, but how can you trust them? How would you know if they actually had your best interest at heart?

My stories take place in a time where doom is, indeed, impending and the truly bad wolves pretend to be good. It’s a society where mankind has lost its way, and where the many suffer for the greed of the few. But it’s also set in a place with roots deeply planted in history.

They may have been largely forgotten, but the ancients are still there. And some of them are closer than you may think. Caught up in the fabric of fate, whether they believe in it or not, Edda and Horse have to find a way to build the foundation for the future of their people.

Scandinavian culture, particularly in the north, has an underlying dreamy, melancholic feel to it. It’s like leaving the city behind and entering a woodland that takes you to another time, if not another realm. Somehow, I think there’s a hint of all of these things in this meme.

Ulfrheim, like most of my stories, came to me in moments spent in the woodlands, or by the sea, in the north of Sweden. In the stillness that whispers to you of times past and lessons lost. My soul always longs for that stillness, and I’m forever striving to recreate it at home as that’s where I can shut the world out and focus on my storytelling.

How about you?

Do you have a meme to share?

Please, post a meme that resonates with you, or a story you have written / are writing in the comments below. Remember to share the links to your posts if you’re using today’s prompt, so we can hop over and read it.

Here’s wishing you a bloomin’ brilliant day!

Much love,

//Evalena 😘

The #InstaWrimo is a photo challenge for Instagram, but it works just as well as a daily writing prompt.

P.S.

Here are the daily writing prompts for NaNoWriMo’s preptober challenge. It’s never too late to start, so let’s get into it. Together.
