ROACH In Andrzej Sapkowski‘s series, “The Witcher,” the protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, affectionately names all of his horses Plotka. This is the feminine, diminutive (endearing) form of Ploć, which is a European freshwater fish called roach in English. Geralt prefers to ride mares, and his fondness for them is evident in the choice of the (more correctly translated) sweet name Roachie.
