ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE (AU) n. Alternative Universe is a term normally relating to fan fiction, where the writer takes another writer’s characters and places them in a different context. It can be a different location, a completely different universe or a different period of time.

Examples of AUs are titles like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” (which exists) and “50 Shades of Grey and Lilac set in Elizabethan London” (which presumably doesn’t).

AU n. See Alternative Universe.
